Delicata Dog Grooming: A Full Renovation That Gave a Kailua Grooming Studio Its Own Space

Before: the unit as we took it on — a previous tenant's fit-out in an Enchanted Lake retail strip.
Before: the inherited casework and finishes, none of it suited to a grooming studio.
Before: demolition — the old fit-out stripped back so the studio could be planned from scratch.

The Challenge

When the young woman who grooms our own dog was ready to open her own studio, she had a tired, generic commercial unit and a clear picture of the experience she wanted to give her clients — calm, clean, and unmistakably hers. The space needed to become a fully branded, working grooming studio: efficient behind the counter, welcoming out front, and finished to a standard that would put both dogs and owners at ease. It was also a chance to show what our studio does beyond residential work.

Our Approach

We designed and managed the complete renovation around how the business actually runs. The plan was reworked so the flow moves naturally from a welcoming front reception to the wash and grooming stations behind it, with sightlines that let one groomer keep an eye on the whole floor. We led the design of every surface — from the millwork to the wall graphics — so the finished studio reads as one considered brand rather than a room full of equipment. The material palette is warm and durable: a wood slat feature wall carries the round Delicata Dog Grooming crest, sage-green wainscoting meets soft mauve above, and hand-painted paw prints and "Splish Splash" signage give the wash stations their personality. A white board-and-batten reception counter, light wood-look flooring, and a built-in bench — complete with a "Reserved for the Dog" cushion — make the front of house feel like a boutique rather than a back room. We handled design and construction management end to end, so she could open the doors to a space that was finished, on-brand, and ready for clients.

Materials & Finishes

• Wood slat feature wall with the custom Delicata Dog Grooming crest • Sage-green wainscoting with soft mauve upper walls • White board-and-batten reception counter and built-in bench • Hand-painted paw-print graphics and "Splish Splash" wash-station signage • Light wood-look flooring throughout • Stainless wash basins and grooming stations built into the plan

The custom crest anchors the space; the wash stations sit just beyond on their own paw-printed wall.
Out front: a board-and-batten reception counter and a built-in bench reserved, of course, for the dog.
A boutique front of house, a world away from the generic unit we started with.

The Result

The finished studio gives Delicata Dog Grooming a home that looks and works like the business its owner imagined — a calm, branded, efficient space where the front of house feels boutique and the grooming floor runs smoothly behind it. It is proof that the same design and construction management we bring to homes translates directly to small commercial spaces: designed, led, and managed from first sketch to opening day.
